  • Published: 15 November 2018

"Born on the track, built for the road." Audi has taken the wraps off the 2019 Audi R8 and revealed a subtle new look and more power.

Gone is the R8 V10 Plus name and in its place is the R8 V10 Performance. The standard R8 will now come with 562bhp and the Performance 612bhp, representing gains of 10bhp and 29bhp respectively with the standard R8 now capable of 0-62mph in 3.4sec (3.5sec for the Spider) and the Performance in 3.1sec (3.2sec for the Spider).

Promising instant response, lightning-fast high-revving and a unique sound – the heart of the Audi R8 remains its V10 naturally aspirated engine. “It’s now even more powerful and faster,” says Oliver Hoffmann, Technical Managing Director of Audi Sport GmbH: “Motorsport is part of our DNA. With around 50 percent shared parts with the R8 LMS GT3 and even 60 percent with the R8 LMS GT4, no other automobile is so close to motor racing as the R8.”

Modifications to the suspension provide even more stability and precision with dynamic steering and electromechanical power steering now available as options. As are the ultralight 20-inch fully milled wheels in five-V dynamic design giving even more precise handling.

Modifications to the R8 design are subtle but give a sharper, tauter and sportier design. The radiator grille has a wider, flatter line and thick bars divide up the large air intakes while the new front splitter and low -set air vent grille at the rear are also wider. The engine compartment is now situated under a new, three-part cover which is available in carbon fibre as an option.

Customers can also choose from three exterior packages and there are two new metallic paint options - Kemora Grey and Ascari Blue.

The new R8 models will be going on sale in early 2019.
