• McLaren set to reveal drop-top version of the 720S on 8th December

On 8th December, McLaren will reveal the 720S Spider. Hotly anticipated, we are expecting it to to be mechanically identical to the coupe version. Which means it will keep that incredible 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 pushing out a mind-blowing 710bhp, reaching a top speed of 212mph and achieving a 0-62mph time of just 2.9 seconds.

Hang on. Aren't convertible versions normally slower than their coupe counterparts? Well, it seems that McLaren have worked around that problem like the engineering geniuses they are. By using carbon fibre tubs and doing away with weighty underbody strengthening, the 720S Spider is only slightly heavier than the coupe.

The only image we have at the moment is this one released by McLaren showing a rather shy 720S Spider. But we only have a few more days to wait to see it in its full glory.
